What types of solar panels?

Polycrystalline solar panels:
This type of solar module has an efficiency of 12-14% and is recognizable by the rectangular cells. Is often used because of the favorable price.

Monocrystalline solar panels: Module efficiency of monocrystalline is 14-16% and identified by the rounded corners of the solar cells. Gives higher yields in cloudy weather.

Thin film module: Efficiency is 5-9%. Large surface needed, but favorable price. Angle of inclination less important, and less power loss at high temperature. Recognized by homogeneous surface.
PV-systems in the Netherlands:

Yield: In a grid-connected solar-system, the amound of kWh/year produced by the solar panels depends on the sunlight hours. The calculationfactor lies in between 0.85 and 1.0. A PV-system of 600wp in the East produces 0.85 * 600 = 510kWh/year, right at the coast it's 1.0 * 600 = 600kWh/year.

Maintenance: Solar panels do not require maintenance. The only component subject to wear is the inverter. The lifetime is about 15 years.

DIY or installed: With some technical knowledge you can do the installation yourself. However, an electrician needs to create an additional group when the installation is larger than 600wp.
